Halo Wars Demo
Anyone else played it yet? I just downloaded it and finished playing through the campaign teaser, and then a skirmish verse the computer, as each faction. Fun shit. Better than I thought it would be, really. It kinda reminds me of Battle for Middle Earth, the first one.

I got the demo of it earlier today. Played through the campaign and did some skirmishes. Fun game, might even get it.

Its great. Amazing for a console RTS. The only flaw (if you consider it one) is the fact you can't expand the "A" selection circle as much as you want it.

Without it being on PC, it won't be that successful. The Halo demographic doesn't really cover RTS gamers, and console RTSs are all terrible (regardless of if it is the most amazing RTS ever) Why? Controls. While people can argue console shooters are horrible, the controllers still lends itself to a shooter; it doesn't lend itself to an RTS at all, because of hotkeys.
As for the game itself, I actually would think it would be pretty good. Again though, it is an RTS on a console...

I am not a RTS person, but I am a halo fan. So i downloaded it and gave it a try.
I was very impressed, and had a lot of fun. The controls made sence, and didnt seem like they were just taken and toned down from a PC version. I will be getting it.

I can agree with this partially.
Considering that Halo Wars doesn't have half as many hotkeys as say Starcraft, it'll be okay, but at the same time I know where you're coming from.

I generally don't trust games that do all its advertising with cutscenes.
And this game has been the epitome of that.
And I agree with Rahja that controls are a big issue. I just don't see this pulling me away from Dawn of War II or SC2 when I want to play a RTS. Maybe if I hear enough good things I'll change my mind.
However, I disagree with Rahja that Halo demographics won't buy this. Because Halo fans are worse then WoW fans when it comes to brand name loyalty. People will buy this without even knowing its a RTS (and how could they with all the advertisements being cutscenes). They are sheep. Every first person shooter set in space is a "halo rip off" to these people. Heck, the number of people calling Mass Effect, a 3rd person RPG a "Halo rip off" on the web was scary.

Kind of enjoying it. Hating the controls. Loving the cutscenes.

I'm honestly surprised; it's really fun. Certain units are just off-the wall broken though. The Vulture and Banshees are the way to go.
I made 14 maxed-out banshees and just stomped a computer on Heroic, badly outnumbered by a balanced force. A vulture backed up by 3 scorpions win.
The ODST troops are the most honourable way to play, and thus I play with them the most, but they do jack damage and die so fast.
Warthogs = lol

Sorry to rez a dead thread, I just didn't want to continue my other thread with one already out about Halo Wars. I personally think its great and I will probably get it for XBOX 360 on my b-day, but yes, i have to admit its better on a PC. I i have having to constantly find my other bases when on a pc, i can very easily scroll down and get to it.
Though as i already mentioned in my last thread, its much like mech assault. I have had a lot of fun with that game in my childhood days. hopefully the actual game has more awesome features?
